A large bike-a-thon attracted about 15 thousand people in St. Petersburg.
Saint Petersburg took part in a parade, which was held today on the last Sunday of spring in 54 cities of Russia. In the Northern capital, the 14-km route was paved from the building of the concert hall “October” on Ligovsky Avenue to the Park of the 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg in the Primorsky district.
At the finish of the route the Vice-Governor Igor Albin presented letters of appreciation to representatives of the public organization “Bikers of St. Petersburg” and the club “Velopiter”. One of the most athletic families with many children, Andrew and Anna Tikhonova and their four children received the gift of a new bike.
In addition to Igor Albin on the 28 May 15-th column of cyclists rode the representatives of Veliky Novgorod, Pskov, Leningrad region and Chairman of the St. Petersburg CRTI Sergei Arlashkin.
It is the plan of the city government to create 40 kilimeters of bike paths before the end of July this year. This one will go along on the embankment of the Fontanka river from Neva river, the through route on the Petrograd side, from quay street to the Big Krestovsky bridge, and two routes that connect the North and the center of St. Petersburg. In the nearest plans – construction of about 36 km of bikeways.
Now in St. Petersburg there are seven bike routes in different areas.
